ford 400 engine in a 1972 station wagon?
My parents had a Ford station wagon with a 400 engine. My brothers and I would skip church and do speed runs down I-96 at over 140 mph on bias ply tires. How close were we to death?
A-Best: its a damned good thing your parents was in church praying for you! cuz even with radial tires my friend, you came bout as close as i did with my 73 nova 454, when unbeknownest to me, a bridge was dead ahead in the road, that 90'd over the railroad tracks, east of dixon ill, at 2 am. it took me a week before i could even drive it to work again!
A: Closer than you'll ever know..
A: At that speed one bump in the wrong place could have made your flight interesting, but short, and the landing would have been quite a ride. I stole my moms 68 cougar with a 351 windsor, I hit a sharp corner on the inside of a four lane freeway at 130 plus, I got scared and backed off the gas as I hit the corner, and the car slowly drifted accross all four lanes of freeway, as I was running out of freeway, I did the only thing I could, I mashed the gas pedal to the floor (again) wondering what that funny keening sound was, the car shot back onto the highway, just like I planned it .( pure luck) I slowed way down and looked at my friend next to me, he looked like casper the ghost, his mouth was open in a O and the keening was him screaming at the hillside closing in on HIS SIDE.(at that speed his screaming was tiny compared to the noise of the wind and engine) (I think that was the last time he got in that thing too. MAN those old fords could run !!!
A: He he he. Yeah. Uh huh. You got up to a buck forty in a 4000 pound jalopy. Right.
