I'm 24 work fulltime and want to become a police officer, will joining the marines help me?
Not only am I 24 but I have a wonderful girlfriend of 5 and a half years. College is taking too long I just started last summer. I want to go into law enforcement as a career, I just want to know if the marines are the rite choice to excell my chances to become a police officer.
A-Best: Military experience can make it easier for you to become a police officer. Points are given to veterans that take civil service tests. Joining the Marines, or any branch of the service, is a big commitment. Be sure that it is something you want to do before doing it. If you do it, make the best of your time, and give it your all! In my opinion, you should not worry so much about college taking too long. I would stick with the college and finish it. Then if joining the Marines still interests you, think about joining.
A: A police officer is a totally different animal than a marine. Marines don't have a better chance than any other civilian who's interested in this profession. As a marine you'd have to undergo training and serve for a significant amount of time before you are relieved from your service. once you are relieved you will have to through a different procedure to become a cop. So being a marine doesn't really boost your chances of becoming a police officer. I'd say work hard and become a good police officer.
A: Nope. Serving in the military doesn't mean your future is now set. You still have to go out and get the job and if you can't do that as a civilian, then you wont be able to do that as a veteran either.
To be in law enforcement requires no military service. Each applicant still must go through the hiring process. All being a veteran does for you is it gives you a few preferential points in the process. If a veteran and a civilian were tied/even in all aspects of the process, then the veteran gets hired.
Don't join the Marines unless you want to be a Marine first and everything else second.
