Can somebody give me 4 rules in rugby and how it keeps players safe?
I've been searching for so long for a Btec assignment but i just can not seem to find any, i don't really have any basic knowledge of rugby so i could really use some help, thanks.
A-Best: Well -- off the top of my head:
Only trained players (Props and Hookers) may play in the front row. If enough aren't available, they go to uncontested scrums.
You must wrap a ball carrier up at the tackle. No spearing with the head or shoulder blocks.
All tackles must be at or below the shoulder. Deliberate high tackles will draw a yellow card at the least.
You can't make contact with a lifted player in the lineout -- even if he has the ball -- until he is returned to the ground by the lifters.
Rugby boots (unlike gridiron boots) cannot have a spike or cleat directlly under the toe. Too dangerous in the ruck. Referees do boot checks before every game.
And with a little thought, I'm sure that any experienced player and/or fan could come up with more.
A: well mite not be a rule but players being confident is rather crucial to being safe! If a player isnt confident but is scared they are more than likely the players that are gonna get hurt. One rule about tackling is that a player is not allowed to tackle a player by picking him up and either letting him fall freely, or by picking him up and bringing him back down on his head/neck. In the scrums the props must touch the apposing player, hold for a second and then engage, this procedure is carried out by the referee, just to help ensure that everybody is ready and nobody gets there head in the wrong place and gets hurt. Another rule is to do with a players studs. Only a certain kind of stud can be worn on the boots of a player, This is to help prevent certain studs being worn as some can be more dangerous than others when being stood on!
A: 1. Rugby is a 15 a side game played over two 40 minute halves
2. Each team is divided into Forwards (Generally bigger) and Backs (Generally faster)
3. Players can only pass (with hands) the ball backwards
4. When tackled by another player that player must release the ball and or get to their feet to "play" (use hands) the ball again
One interesting thing about Rugby is the scrum, where both teams forwards (the bigger guys) make a formationn like this:
o o o
1 1
the o's from above then "lock horns" and try and push the other team back (while one of team's backs puts the ball between them).
The o's from above are called the front row. These are specialist positions. Should the situation arrive where no more players are available to play there for a team (because of injuries during the game) then the scrums can either be uncontested (i.e No one pushes) or I have even seen a game where the team with the feed to the scrum just gets a free kick (a tap and run) instead.
By doing this they ensure that no-one who is not properly trained for the front row (the o's from above) will ever have to "lock horns".
A: 1) at scrum time the referee says "crouch, touch, pause engage" it is illegal to engage before he says so.It has been brought in due to the number of neck injuries from front rows charging in at each other.
2)It is illegal to tackle a player while his feet are not on the ground i.e in the air.If a player jumps for the ball in open play or the lineout you cannot take him out whilst he is in the air.
3)it is illegal to take a maul to the ground or collapse it as it can cause serious injuries if there is a pile up.They experimented last year with ELV's (experimental law variations) which saw the defending side allowed to collapse a maul. They have outlawed this again this year, more through negative play but on safety grounds also.
4)when you tackle an oppenent you have to make an effort to wrap your arms around them. This stops the tackler shoulder charging and short arming (clotheslining) attackers.
