What is I-90 West like across Wisconsin and Minnesota?
I looked at some pictures and it seems like it might be nice. Not too much traffic, rolling farmland in Wisconsin, big, open fields in Minnesota. Is this true? I might be making this trip in the summer and was hoping to get some feedback on it. Can anyone tell me more about Interstate 90 West through the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota (someone who has taken this route)?
I am going from Pennsylvania to the Pacific Northwest.
A-Best: very nice drive a few things to see is in Mitchell SD is the Corn Palace
and Wall SD .. is nice place to visit
and also visit Mt Rushmore outside of Rapid City
is a few of the many things to see
A: well, I90 between Chicago and Madison, WI is pretty boring. Between Madison, WI and LaCrosse, WI is ok, yeah lost of farm land and some nice scenery. Rolling farmland in Wisconsin is a lot like rolling farmland in upstate New York. There is some nice scenery along the way, but along the interstate is pretty straight and interstate-like.
Definitely the further North you go, the more scenic it gets. Then, after the Twin Cities, it is pretty nice.
I would look at taking some non-interstate roads for a bit. They are more interesting, go through small towns, and more rolling hills and farmland.
A: Yes, I-90 is a straight shot accross MN into SD. It depends on where you are coming from and going. Where are you going?
A: I grew up in Wisconsin and have taken I-90 out a couple of times. From Madison WI it is a very beautiful drive. As you Drive up to Wisconsin Dells and then over toward La Crosse, WI, it is Hilly and amazingly forestry. The Mississippi river is breath taking at that crossroads also. The problem comes when you continue to head west into MN. The first half hour after crossing the river is nice. But personally, I find it boring after that. The land gets very flat and it is vast amounts of farmland for the next hours on end. There are also very few towns to be able to stop in at that point. If thats what you are looking for, go for it.
