Even numbered interstates are East - West, odd numbers are North - South.
Additionally, interstates with three digits also have meaning. A three digit beginning with an odd number is a spur, meaning it ends. A three digit beginning with an even number goes around the downtown area. I-94 goes through the Twin Cities. 394 goes into downtown Minneapolis and ends. 494 and 694 go around the downtown areas.
