Question:

What is the best way to buy a new tire for a 1996 Cheverolt Lumini?
I drive a 1996 Cheverolt Lumini. I am looking for a spare tire incase of a flat. I went to TirePlus and they quoted me $96 for a tire that is identical to the four tires I presently drive with. I went to STS and they quoted me $85 for the same tire. The guy at STS said I need a rim with the tire too. How do I buy a new rim without spending $140.00 at my local Cheverolt dealer? Can I get an identical tire any cheaper than $85?

A-Best: a brand new tire will always run in that price range (and worth it for the peace of mind it gives you....) you can always try getting an older tire from a junkyard....but you never know how reliable that is.

A: I recently replaced two tires on my car and found that the Discount Tire Direct online store had the same tire as the physical store for $30 cheaper. I didn't understand it, and the store manager wouldn't matcht the price, so I bought it online and let the same store install it to keep the warranty. If you need a different size rim, i would suggest going to a junkyard and telling the person at the counter what you're looking for and they'll find a rim that will fit your car. Good Luck!!!
