I was hit and run last night on I-88 illinois, I got his plate number, what should I do? I dont want my ins up
I got hit from the back, an Illinois state patrol came on the scene and advised a late report since he was answering another call and there was no injury, I mean so far... And with the impact I don't know if i got the right guy? The officer checked the plate it matched what i thought hit me from the back. In the process of going through the filing of the claims, with all the fees, I'm afraid it's going to jump up my premium mostly if we cannot find the guy.
Plz, advise
A-Best: It is up to the state trooper and your insurance company. A trooper or officer will most likely not give you the information. You pay insurance premiums to have the insurance company work for you! As far as the fees, I agree with the above post, what fees? The only thing in Illinois you should get charged for is if you need another copy of the crash report from IDOT. (You get one copy from the trooper who handles the report.) Don't forget to submit your info to IDOT at the address on the report. It's the law.
A: I would take it downtown (police station) with my police report and see if they will run it for you. I would then give the information to your car insurance company. it should be considered "no-fault" (insurance lingo), so it shouldn't effect your premium.
A: if its the guy let his insurance pay the costs and it shouldn't affect your insurance premiums.
A: Sometimes your ins. goes up even if it was not your fault. Time to look for another provider if this happens.
A: File a police report, file a claim with your carrier. Use the plate and get his insurance info and if he/she has damage then his/her company will pay. What fees????? Never heard of fees associated with claims. Talk to your agent because most companies do not surcharge you for Uninsured Motorist claims. Good Luck.
A: Unless you're a police investigator you're at the mercy of the officer who's investigating your case and your insurance company.
A: take the report to your ins agent. thats what you pay him for. your accident info is already on your "CLUE" report(ask your agent) so you might as well file. good luck.
